Budget Crisis Response Initiatives
Due to the drastic reduction in state funding, the school district is facing several years of deficits that will require eliminations of programs, along with reductions in spending in order to balance the budget. In response to this crisis, The Green Dragon Foundation will be raising funds to guarantee the following programs will continue:
- Student Field Trips – Experiential learning is a highly effective instructional approach that provides students with the opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-world experiences. Participation in field trips create opportunities for learning to come alive and deeply ingrains the learning in a child’s long term memory.
- Teacher Training/Workshops – It is the practice in the Lewisburg Area School District to generate Professional Learning Communities. This educationally sound approach provides a vehicle for collaboration, common practices and shared language among educators in the district. The most important component in student achievement is the quality of the teacher. Teacher quality is increased through professional development and collaboration. LASD uses two workshops to train the professional staff.
- Academic Student Competitions – Students become immersed in a particular area of interest and have the opportunity to challenge their abilities through academic competitions. LASD each year has large numbers of students excel to various levels of regional, state, and national competitions. Participation in events such as National History Day, Technology Students of America, Economics, PA Music Educators Association (PMEA) events, etc. offer our students valuable opportunities to grow academically and develop friendships with a diverse population of students from across the Commonwealth.
