The Green Dragon Foundation Provides Urgent Support for LASD Families Impacted by SNAP Benefit Delays
November 5, 2025 — The Green Dragon Foundation (GDF) is stepping up to support Lewisburg Area School District (LASD) families who may not receive their expected SNAP benefits this month. To help ease this immediate hardship, GDF is providing Weis Markets gift cards to eligible LASD families this week.
According to Ann Glock, Executive Director of The Green Dragon Foundation, “Weis Markets is generously ‘stretching’ the amount of gift cards that GDF is able to purchase. We are very grateful to them for partnering with GDF to support our families in need.” LASD will distribute the gift cards to families in the coming days.
Meeting Urgent Needs Through Established Endowments
This timely response was only possible because of funds that were already established to meet the immediate, unmet needs of Lewisburg’s underserved students. Through the generosity of donors, two key funds have made this emergency support possible:
- The “Lifting Up Lewisburg Fund” and
- E.A.T., Ensuring Access to the Table – The Kraus Family Fund for Food Security
These funds were critical in allowing GDF to act quickly to meet the urgent food needs of students and their families.
About the E.A.T. Fund:
E.A.T., Ensuring Access to the Table: The Kraus Family Fund for Food Security is a quasi-endowed fund at The Green Dragon Foundation. It provides ongoing funding to the Lewisburg Area School District to support district-wide programs addressing food insecurity among students. Together, we can ensure that no student in our community goes hungry.
About the “Lifting Up Lewisburg" Fund:
This fund started as a fundraising effort to help students during Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020. Since then, it has transitioned to a quasi-endowment and expanded to include a “LUL” fund at LASD for school counselors to utilize when their neediest students require individual assistance to help them be successful in school. GDF hopes to continue this type of student support where and when it is needed the most. We are seeking donor support to augment this fund, so it is available to meet future immediate student needs.
Launching a $10,000 Fundraising Goal
Today, The Green Dragon Foundation is launching a $10,000 fundraising goal to ensure continued support for our most vulnerable students and families. Because it remains unclear when SNAP benefits will resume, additional financial assistance may be needed — and we want to be prepared.
