Last fall students at Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School had the opportunity to experience a new sport in their physical education classes. New archery equipment was purchased through funding from The Green Dragon Foundation in honor of GDF's 2024 Volunteer of the Year, Bill Stackhouse, a retired DHEMS physical education teacher. The students enjoyed learning a new activity. Seventh grader Arthur Bach said that he liked learning archery because it taught him to focus. "This unit in gym is very useful for me because this is a skill I can use when I go hunting with my dad," he stated. Students mastered the safety procedures before shooting arrows. Kaitlin Long said "I really enjoy archery. You need to concentrate to remember all the steps to do it properly. I think it is a great skill to have in life." Physical education teacher Amanda Geer stated, "With the purchase of archery equipment, our 7th grade students had the opportunity to participate in a nontraditional physical activity. They were excited to try something new and fully embraced the experience. It was especially rewarding to see students of all ability levels find success and build confidence throughout the unit. As they developed their skills, students also improved their focus and concentration, growing into more capable archers. We sincerely thank the Green Dragon Foundation for their generous support in making this program possible."
