Students Showcase Skills at TSA Conference
Last school year GDF funding enabled 17 middle and high school students to attend the Technology Student Association (TSA) state conference in April. These students competed in individual and team events such as engineering design, coding, forensic science, and video game design. Students learned how to work collaboratively in order to produce a product and document their steps in a portfolio. Students gained leadership and teamwork skills while competing against 1,800 students from across the state of PA.
Middle School Principal Michael Sokalzuk noted that the event "was a great experience for both students and advisors", showing the impact TSA has had on students as well as staff. LAHS TSA Advisor Jeremy Lauver states that the funding "provided students with an invaluable opportunity to learn how to work with others to accomplish a simulated real-world task and the importance of documenting their work."
Dan Morgan, the DHEMS TSA Advisor noted the impact experiences like TSA have on students. He says, "These moments will leave a lasting impression on our students, shaping how they reflect on their middle school journey at Lewisburg”. Attending the TSA conference provided students with meaningful opportunities to develop skills outside of the classroom.
Funding was provided through the PA Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) Program. We anticipate many Lewisburg students qualifying for the 2027 state conference.
