The Green Dragon Foundation Recognizes Volunteers and Donors

Last Updated 10/3/2024

The foundation recently recognized its volunteers and donors at a reception held at Fero Vineyards & Winery. Bob Kallin, Board President, welcomed guests and thanked them for their support in helping the foundation distribute $513,889 to the Lewisburg Area School District (LASD) during the last school year. Kallin mentioned that the support provided by donor gifts enables educators to provide innovative programs in their classrooms and enhance district athletic facilities.

Dr. Erin Jablonski, LASD School Board President, and Mr. Vince Hoover, LASD Assistant Superintendent, offered their words of appreciation to the crowd. They highlighted the strong partnership between the district and GDF which enables students to enjoy many programs that are not covered under the regular school budget.

Science teacher Alex Oliver, graduate Maiya Hauck-Dabney ’24 and senior Lindsey Barker spoke about the LAHS Greenhouse which opened in the fall of 2023 and was made possible through funding from the foundation. They shared their enthusiasm for the new classes offered at the greenhouse. Barker stated, “Now many students to want to grow their own food and several are of thinking of further studies or going into careers in environmental science.”

According to Ann Glock, GDF Executive Director, “Our team of volunteers provides the human resources necessary to raise funds for Lewisburg students. From our Board membership to bulk mail assembly, volunteers are an essential part of our organization.” She continued, “I am especially thankful for the Special Events Committee, chaired by Addy Rummel, who planned and implemented today’s event. Her team included Judy Glock, Courtney Remmey and Corey Jusko.”

Glock stated, “This year volunteers Corey Jusko, Matt Markunas, Karen Miller, Carol Weinrich and Chuck Weinrich were recognized for five years of service. The ten-year volunteers were Char Gray, Debbie Pigos and Ann Sabol. Volunteers recognized for fifteen years of service were Tim Apple, Bob McCormack and Gale Reish.”

Culminating the awards portion of the reception was the presentation of the “Volunteer of the Year” Award. This award was created in 2011 to recognize a volunteer who went above and beyond in the scope of volunteer efforts. This year, the award was bestowed upon Bill Stackhouse.

Glock stated, “Bill began volunteering with GDF in 2018, serving as a Board Advisor. As a retired physical education teacher, Bill’s insight into LASD has been very valuable. Bill is always willing to pitch in to deliver bulk mailings to the post office or pick up items for special events.” When asked why he volunteers Stackhouse stated, “I feel that we should give back to the community that has served us. Having been a student and an educator in Lewisburg, I am happy to give back by volunteering with GDF.”

Along with a plaque of appreciation, GDF will be making a $1,000 gift to LASD in honor of Stackhouse. The gift will benefit physical education at the Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School.

Glock extends her thanks to Melanie Ortiz of Lewisburg Studio for her volunteer photography at the event. Individuals or businesses wishing to volunteer or donate can visit The Green Dragon Foundation website at www.greendragonfoundation.org or call the foundation office at (570) 522-8433.
