4th Annual GOLD Program Creates a Supportive Environment for LAHS Students
The Lewisburg Area High School (LAHS) recently held its 4th annual GOLD (Growth Opportunities and Leadership Development) night, with support from The Green Dragon Foundation through The Charles and Betty Degenstein Foundation and The Charles B. Degenstein Foundation. Ninety students participated and 24 staff members collaborated to produce the event. The evening of support and fellowship engaged students to express themselves, learn coping skills, and build connections with their peers, leaders, and staff.
Now in its 4th year, the GOLD program provided a dynamic and supportive environment focused on community building, peer connection, and personal growth. The evening included both large group sessions and smaller breakout groups designed to foster deeper conversations and skill-building opportunities. Participants benefited from strengthened peer relationships and increased sense of belonging, enhanced confidence and self-expression, their greater awareness of their mental health and emotional well-being.
Student reactions were very positive and included: “I loved it a lot, and I liked how nobody judged anyone, and we got to be ourselves.” Additional student feedback reflects the strong impact of the program: “It was a really amazing experience, and I would highly encourage people to go!”; “I didn’t even think about my phone for once — which is a big thing for me.”; “I think this is something that should be offered forever.”; and “It truly brings out the honesty and kindness from your peers.”
Program leader, teacher Mrs. Claire Gault, thanked The Green Dragon Foundation, The Charles B. Degenstein Foundation, and The Charles B. Degenstein Foundation for their support and expressed her hope of repeating the program for incoming students next fall.
